We met so many years ago

Not as lovers, just as friends

The times we’ve had, happy and sad

We knew they’d never end

We needed no agreement

We could carry on like fools

Because we knew we had Unwritten rules

So many others came and went

So did other things

We still both knew where we both stood

The rest were senseless flings

Then what we had grew stronger

We’d been given all the tools

But we still lived by our Unwritten rules

Bridge

Deep down, I guess I always knew that I was holding back

I never thought that someone else could ever be a threat

I know we have unwritten rules, I know we both agree

The only thing I do not know, is what you feel for me

I want to take things further

And give much more of me

I’ve re-assessed my wants and needs and

You’re there in every dream

We won’t know till we try it

Life sometimes seems so cruel, but I think

It’s time to change Unwritten Rules
